OYSU UK Peace Capacity Workshop

Ogaden Youth and Student Union in Collaboration with The University of Bristol and Conciliation Resources organised a two-day workshop on Peace Capacity in the context of the Ogaden region. Researchers from the University of Bristol shared their EU-funded research on Civil Society Engagement in Conflict Prevention while Conciliation Resources reflected on their on-going work on the Ogaden peace process.

The two-day workshop consisted of group activities, presentations and dialogue exploring themes ranging from ‘Conflict and the media’, looking at why the media matters and how to use it constructively, Peace-building processes, Conflict Sensitivity and Local Ownership. Another important topic covered was on the engagement and participation of marginalised groups in peace processes, looking specifically at the Ogaden peace process drawing on the work of Conciliation Resources and others.

The workshop concluded with exploring and strategising on potential opportunities and entry points for Ogaden youth to participate, engage and contribute to peacebuilding in the Ogaden through group exercises and feedback. Ogaden Youth and Student union members also produced an action plan and a set of recommendations on the future and potential contribution of Youth to peacebuilding in the UK and in the Ogaden.
