As many of you are aware East Africa is currently witnessing its worst drought in decades. The Ogaden region in Eastern Ethiopia is one of the hardest hit regions. In addition to the ongoing drought the region has been facing oppression from the Ethiopian regime for decades.

The Ethiopian government continues to deny NGOs such as the Red Cross, Save the Children, and Oxfam access to the hardest hit areas. Civilians are unable to trade with neighboring Somalia nor gain access to necessary health care facilities. Around 7 million Somalis are estimated to inhabit the Ogaden region the majority of whom have been impacted by this drought.

Who Are We? Ogaden Youth and Student Union is a collection of youth from over 35 countries with one mission, vision and desire. Which is to raise awareness about the ongoing political and humanitarian crisis in the Ogaden region of Eastern Ethiopia. Our Mission: Unfortunately, Ogaden Youth & Student Union is barred from going to the Ogaden, let alone directly sending money to those hit hardest by the famine. Therefore, our main goal is to raise funds for the Somali’s living in the occupied Ogaden region of Ethiopia, we are seeking to partner with an independent government registered international NGO that can directly provide aid to the region while documenting and safeguarding the disbursement of aid. We are also raising awareness through our social media platforms for the forgotten Somali brothers and sisters in the occupied Ogaden region of Ethiopia by using the hashtag #HiddenOgadenFamine

How will the funds be spent- 100% of the proceeds will go directly to famine relief. There are countless well connected aid relief agencies that are currently providing much needed aid across East Africa. Our goal is to lobby and pressure the Ethiopian government to allow our NGO of choice to provide unhindered immediate assistance to those in need. In addition a member of OYSU will accompany the aid agency we choose to document and live stream the disbursement of rice, cooking oil, floor, mats and most importantly WATER. Any donation no matter how small or big will greatly impact the lives of those suffering in silence.

I have hoped wholeheartedly to only be told there is no dreaming in this dark room. That no one cares about an orphan and a childless mother. Here is where my reality overshadows my hope in humanity". - Broken wings by Idil Duleh.
